Our Jade Bonsai, Portulacaria afra (Elephant Bush), has a trunk that leans gently to one side before branching out generously in every direction, building up into a thick, rounded, pillow-like canopy of small, glossy jade leaves. It’s the fullest, most established-looking specimen in our jade range — the kind of tree that reads as lush and healthy from across the room.

As a succulent, Portulacaria afra stores water in its thick leaves and stems, so it copes easily with Pakistan’s heat and forgives the occasional missed watering. Care at a glance

• Light: Bright light, 4–6 hours of sun or a very bright spot. More light keeps the canopy dense and compact.
• Water: Water only once the soil is fully dry — roughly weekly in summer, far less in winter.
• Soil: Fast-draining bonsai or cactus mix; avoid letting the pot sit in water.
• Feeding: A diluted balanced fertiliser once a month during the growing season (March–October).
• Pruning: Occasional trimming keeps the canopy’s rounded shape neat; left alone, it will keep filling out naturally.
• Placement: Indoors near bright light year-round, or outdoors in partial shade. Bring in during frost or cold spells.
